An influential but now-defunct blogger once compared the Manosphere to a fortress. He thought the central stronghold of the fort, AKA ‘the Citadel,’ was Chateau Heartiste. And he felt that Heartiste must be defended at all costs, otherwise the Manosphere would be lost.
Now this idea is thought-provoking. But fundamentally wrong.
Sure Heartiste is important. For many men, myself included, his original content was our intro to ‘serious’ Red Pill thought. Content like the 16 Commandments of Poon are still Red Pill must-reads.
But if Heartiste disappeared tomorrow would the Manosphere really be ‘lost?’
Would Red Pill knowledge disappear?
Of course not.
Because the Manosphere is NOT a fortress with a central Citadel. It’s a completely different thing – more like a wild animal. A beast that’s extremely difficult to influence, control, or destroy…
The most apt analogy for the Red Pill community?
The Legend of Hydra
The Hydra was a monstrous reptilian beast in Greek myth. It had hundreds of heads – too many to count. And for every head cut off? Two new heads grew back in its place. The monster also had deadly poisonous blood and breath. All of which made Hydra a formidable creature who was nearly impossible to kill.
Why The Manosphere Is Hydra
And THAT more accurately describes the structure of the Manosphere today.
It’s a riot of ‘heads’ – loosely united by one ideological ‘body.’ Some heads are large and strong – the big name guys with loud, powerful voices. Others heads are smaller with less influence. And some are almost invisible. We’re also not all friends – many don’t get along. But even so, we’re all roughly affiliated – together we make up an influential whole.
What really cements that strength?
The complete lack of leadership.
No one runs the Manosphere – nobody speaks for us all.
And that decentralized multi-headed form makes us difficult to contain.
If we lost a few heads at once? Even the big ones?
Double that number would eventually replace them.
And in our story? Decapitations aren’t even needed for the Red Pill Hydra to grow! New heads continue to pop up whether old ones are lost or not.
Can The Red Pill Hydra Be Killed?
In the legend, Hercules finally kills Hydra with help from his nephew Iolaus.
Hercules systematically cuts off each head while Iolaus then cauterizes the wounds with a firebrand – preventing the heads from growing back.
That makes my Manosphere = Hydra analogy not quite correct. In real life there’s really no Hercules figure strong enough to take on the Red Pill/Manosphere Hydra.
Because at its core, our fundamental Truth fuels our Hydra.
Yes Truth can be obscured, twisted, and ignored.
But in the end, Truth escaped. And it can never be contained again.
The Red Pill Hydra is tough, aggressive, and anti-fragile. And thanks to the Internet – damn near immortal.
So good luck, Hercules.
You’re gonna need it.
What do you think? Is the Manosphere Citadel or Hydra?
